Purpose
The purpose of this wide-area Doctoral Programme in Biomedical Engineering and Medical Physics is to create a strong basis for raising the level of the science and the international competitiveness of the industry in health care. Multidisciplinarity, connections to the industrial life and internationality are emphasized. These elements are achieved by combining the strong expertise in the Finnish universities, international contacts and educational resources.A central issue in the Doctoral Programme is a joint research program which will raise the level of basic research in biomedical engineering, the international competitiveness of the industry and the level of the health care. In addition to the basic research, the Doctoral Programmel will co-operate closely with health care and wellness technologies, especially for the needs of the aging population.
The Doctoral Programme will exploit the EVICAB-project funded by the European Union. In this project the Biomedical Engineering education has been transferred to the Internet and new educational methods have been developed. The objectives in the harmonization of education of the European BIOMEDEA-project are utilized in the Doctoral Programme.
